Called "the pearl of the Alps" the town of Courmayeur lies at about 1224 meters above sea level in a basin dominated by the chain of Mont Blanc, almost under the glacier Brenva.
The area was already inhabited in Roman times, when the mines were exploited auriferous quartz that were there.

Around six hundred were discovered sources of curative mineral water and this made a note Curmayeur town soggirno. Later, with the growing interest towards the mountain, was born in Courmayeur the first Italian alpine station. The town became the starting point for all excursions on Monte Bianco, and today is a popular ski resort with modern lifts.
The old town of Courmayeur still some signs of its past, such as the church of SS. Pantaleone and Valentino with its Romanesque bell tower of 1392 and the altar in gilded wood. In addition there is the thirteenth-century tower Maluquin Alpine Museum and the "Duke of Abbruzzo.
The extraordinary beauty of its landscape, the opportunity to ski on the slopes of Mont Blanc which with its 4810 meters is the highest peak of Europe, make Courmayer one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.
